Discourse Part Two
On page 9 of the Discourse Descartes mentions how there are two different types of minds. There are those who believe that they are more capable of doing things than they actually are and in doing so are unable to stop themselves from making risky decisions and those who are reasonable in what they think or believe but question whether things are true or false. Descartes believed that if he had not known all the differences between all the opinions of those who had learned the most then he would've been apart of the second group of minds. He had recognized that those who had feelings different than ours were not to be considered barbarians but that those such people chose to use their mind of reason the same as we do if not more.

I agree on that there are two different types of people in logic and knowledge. Personally I think that the second group of people he describes are those that are more knowledgeable; Those who are reasonable in what they think but question whether things are true or false. I think that people should have the ability to question themselves and what they believe. It not only shows a curiosity to see if they can figure out some other answer to their questions, but it also encourages more thought and even more question, which I believe will bring about more knowledge.
i think this is an interesting topic: is there such a thing as a 'kind of mind'? what accounts for our 'mental character'? is it the same thing as personality?
I think that mental character and personality are two different things. For example, I have a friend who has two younger twin sisters who are both autistic. They have the same mental character is that way. One of the girls is more outgoing and likes to have attention, while the other sister is more to herself unless she knows the person she's interacting with very well. Here they both have two very different personalities. I'm not sure if this is a clear example, but it is the first thing that came to my mind.
